TRENDS 2008

The world of fashion is constantly changing, more and more designers are looking to the past for inspiration; what's old is new, and nowadays fashion is shaped by all the cultural influences from around the globe. The past continues to be the inspiration for the future but more than ever, designers are concerned about where fashion and beauty trends originate. The styles and trends you will see in 2008 will inevitably reflect modern interpretations of past designs, while also keeping an eye on emerging global trends in beauty and culture.

A trend-conscious person never misses the fashion trends for the year to come. If you are already reading this article, this means that you are interested in what to wear in 2008. Do you like the fashion of the fifties? Well, you should, because it's been back in 2008 and that entire craze will be in style again. As a matter of fact, this trend of the 50s comeback has already started before 2008, so you are at least a bit familiar with the concept. Such items as high heeled pumps, slim skirts, large belts, and loose blouses with puffy collars and sleeves appear to be becoming all the rage once again.

Here are some of the latest staples of your wardrobe should be:

* A slim skirt
*
A wide belt
*
A slim fitting pair of pants
*
A fitted jacket/Blazer
*
Shaped t-shirts (not too tight or too loose)
*
Wrap blouses and dresses
*
Metallic colors including gray metals and gold
*
Items made of Denim

The colors are dominant for the style for 2008's spring and summer are the gray, black, red, white plus yellow. Use these colors to add to your classic wardrobe in unique ways. However, next year, dare to wear yellow and see how it looks. Also go for earthy colors like Brown and Bottle green.

The accessories also match the outfit. The oversized bags are still in style, while the super huge earrings and necklaces will compliment the overall clothing. The jewels may be made of plastic or more natural materials such as wood or even clay. These can be ethno influenced and create a great effect on the entire apparel, making the body look small and giving an interesting perspective.

MOST COMMON DRESSING MISTAKES

I know we all want the same thing, to look great! Right? Nothing can spoil your look more than a conspicuous fashion faux pas (wrong step). Unfortunately, there are some fashion errors that we might not be aware of. So for the benefit of all the readers out here, I point out the most common fashion mistakes and how not only for woman, but also for men and how to avoid them.

1. The Color Issue :

A. Wearing the wrong colors

All skin tones among us are not created equal. To look your best, choose wardrobe colors that complement your skin. Wearing the wrong colors will make your skin appear dim and; lines and wrinkles will be more evident. The lime green or hot pink that you saw on the runways may look fabulous on the models, but horrible on you. Experiment with different colors and stick with the palettes that look best on you. Don't waste your money on clothes that make you look pale, sallow, or washed out.
B. Wearing red and green at the same time.
Honestly, you will look horrible. Red and green are two of the colors that you absolutely must avoid wearing together. These colors completely clash, so just stay clear. Also, it’s best to stay away from green and red makeup. If you decide to go for a green eyeshadow, don’t put on a bright red lipstick. Instead, opt for a clear gloss or a nude color.

C. Wearing too many Colors.

A common fashion mistake is using too many colors. As a general rule wear up to three (or four if u can't avoid to) colors only, for a easy on the eye coordinated look.

2. The Shoes :

A. Dirty shoes.

It would be bad enough if you had shoes that were out of shape, or didn’t match with your outfit, but if you have dirty shoes, you’re making a big fashion faux pas. Make sure to keep your shoes in right shape and most importantly, clean!

B. Bulky shoes with slim/feminine dress

A floral, feminine dress should never be paired with bulky shoes such as thick platforms. This kind of dress deserves a pair of soft, delicate shoes. Anything with a small heel, and even wedges or flip flops.

C. Messy Shoes

Take care of your shoes as they complete your look. Also ensure that your shoes complement your outfit.

3. Make-Up :

A. Too much makeup

Too much makeup creates a harsh look and makes lines appear deeper. Keep your daytime makeup light and evening makeup a little darker. If you are unsure of makeup application techniques, see a professional.

B. Inappropriate makeup

Light for day, heavier for evening, sheer for sports. You wear different clothes for different activities in you life; your makeup should change as well.

4. Accessories :

Wearing accessories is important most especially if you are wearing something simple because the embellishments actually accent your outfit.

A. Too Many Accessories

A common mistake that many people commit though is wearing too much of them. Keep accessories to a minimum. Button or hoop earrings are acceptable for a daytime look. For an evening, make one piece, e.g. chandelier earrings or embellished purse. don't wear a heavy necklace and
chandelier earrings at the same time. always have a key element that draws attention and keep the rest of accessories neutral.

B. Using the wrong accessories.

Finish off with accessories that match your style and don’t over do it. For example with necklaces choose the correct length. Short chains and chokers tend to make your neck appear larger. If you are going out in evening wear make sure your handbag is sleek, small and coordinated, a big slouchy bag will totally ruin the look.

5. Undergarments :

Selecting the wrong undergarments is also fashion mistake. Choose the right underwear.

A. Revealing plain white or black bra straps and thongs
Some underwear just looks better inside. No matter how expensive the plain white sports bra is, keep it concealed. Same applies to transparency level of your clothes: wear white or bra with white shirts and black/colored bras with black ones, and not vice versa.

B. Size
Buy the correct size in your undergarments. as they make a big difference in.... how your body looks under your clothes. Wearing the right size will allow you to avoid revealing-lines, bulges and sagging.

5. Hair :

Don't color your entire hair again and again. At the salon, the stylist has likely lightly retouched the roots when they have grown through and then refreshed the ends. By doing the entire hair repeatedly the color can be uneven and the ends are over-porous. Then the ends will become dried out, making them harder to style and easier to split. Try to apply the color only to the new growth of roots, spread the color through the rest of the hair just briefly (only a few minutes), then shampoo out.

A. Hair Styling products

Use the right styling product for your hair-type. If you have fine hair and you are trying to avoid the flat look, then why do you apply heavy gel which only serve to had weight? Gel is best used thinly at the roots to lift the hair, then comb it outward to reduce frizzy hair and to give you a wet look. Always hold the can of hairspray at least a foot from your head rather than getting it closer and over spray till your hair is so wet.

These fashion mistakes tend to come from people not accepting their body type and wearing the latest fashion just because its popular and I wish you are not one of them . To look your best, always be true to yourself and you will present a stylish confident look that will create the right impression for all occasions.

CLOTHING CARE

Whether you're obsessed with fashion or just want to go as long as possible without shopping, taking good care of your clothes can help keep them looking newer, longer. You can make them last longer if you care for them properly and there are some great ways to make sure you’ll have that favorite dress for a very long time.

Don't wash your clothes every single time that you wear them :

I know this may sound gross to some people, so I will say that you have to use common sense and good judgment here. If you wear something and you get some tomato ketchup on the front of it, of course you need to wash it right away. When I say you don't need to wash your clothes every time you wear them, I'm basically talking about things that you wear for only a few hours in a day or so and those which don't look dirty at all. Like in the case of jeans, don't washed them every time you wore them instead, try hanging your jeans or shirt out in the shade(not in the sun shine) with flow of Air . They will get freshened up in a hurry, and you won't have to put them in the washing machine.

Treat STAINS immediately :

Stains are one of the most common ways our clothing gets ruined. If you leave a stain until the day you do your laundry it has time to dry and set in and will be even harder to remove. If you wash a stained item improperly this can also set the stain in and putting a stained item in the clothes dryer is almost certain to ensure a permanent mark. Rinse out a stained item with water immediately after the stain occurs or as soon as possible. If the stain is a grease or protein stain you can treat it with a bit of dish soap. Hot and warm water can cause stains to set in so only use cold water until you are sure the stain is gone.

Prevent Shrinkage :

Shrinkage is another common killer of clothes. Clothing that is made out of natural materials like cotton and wool can shrink in the clothes dryer quite quickly. Items like denim blue jeans and cotton skirts will shrink a bit each time you dry them. Clothes dryers can also give clothes quite a beating if you dry them too long and too often. Air-drying your clothes is the best way to make them last longer. Using a fabric softener in the rinse cycle will help keep your clothes from getting stiff. You can dry your clothes outside or on an indoor folding rack that stores easily when you are through.

Sew loose seams or small tears as soon as they occur :

If you have a small opening it can easily tear into a larger one that is either harder or impossible to fix. Replace lost buttons immediately, don't think......"aaah...It's not visible to others". It only takes a few minutes to sew up a loose seam or button and thread costs next to nothing.

Store it properly for the next season :

When it’s time to put your clothes away for the season be sure to clean, iron, and fold them first. Storing your clothes is a key factor. If your clothes are made of polyester or silk or they have shine prints and/or gold coated material, then keep them in a thick bag made of a fabric (cloth), but not in a plastic polythene. If they are cottons or woolens then u can use plastic bags or whatever you want but pack them tightly as insects damage them (especially wool is eaten by silverfish). And please don't keep a lot of Naphthalene balls. You may need to put one or two in the Rack but not in each of the garment. If your clothes contain "jari" or metal wires or crystals, then roll the garments loosely and store instead of folding them.

ARE YOU TOO LONG OR TOO SHORT?

If you are "Short and Heavy" and want to look Tall and Thin:

  • Wear clothes that fit well (too tight or too loose clothes addpounds).
  • Wear solid colors, preferably in the same color range, from head to toe.
  • Avoid stiff fabrics and nubby textures.
  • Wear darker tones in smooth fabrics with flat finishes.
  • Limit stripes to very fine, subdued, and close-together versions.
  • Wear trousers at the natural waist (never below).
  • Wear suspenders with button loops, never clips.
  • Avoid too many accessories.
  • Be sure your tie touches the waistband and that it is medium in width.
  • Avoid busy patterns.
  • Wear vertical stripes.
  • Avoid elastic bottoms on sweaters, and jackets, which can cause the material to bunch up at the waist and make you look heavier.

If you are so Tall and Lean (thin) and want to look a bit Shorter and/or Heavier:
  • Wear contrasting colors in mix-and-match separates.
  • Wear bolder colors as accents.
  • Wear patch pockets or styling details.
  • Wear layers.
  • Elastic bottoms on sweaters, and jackets can cause the material to bunch up at the waist and make you look heavier.
  • Wear spread-color shirts and slightly wider ties, with Windsor knots.
  • Wear thin-soled, trim-looking shoes.
  • Select a top coat in a huskier fabric. It can be full or belted and should fall below the knee.
  • Wear trousers with deep pleats, cuffs, and full legs.
  • Limit using the same color from head to toe.
  • Limit the use of narrow vertical stripes, very narrow ties, and pointed lapels.

BODY LANGUAGE

Your mom was right! One of the most memorable things she ever said: "Stand up straight." Why did she say that? Because she knew that good posture will take five or 10 pounds off you with no sweat.

So chest out, stomach in, posture straight, walk into that job interview, sales presentation or even for a casual walk with confidence -- and walk tall!

  • Don't slouch (bend) you are standing or sitting, slouching (bending) can suggest that you are intimidated, and you lack confidence or that you're uninterested in what others have to say. leaning to one side or bouncing your foot says that you are nervous.
  • Keep your head up. If you walk with your head down it lets other people be more important than you. Look at where you're going.
  • Make eye contact. Don’t stare, but look the other person (persons) in the eye 40 to 60% of the time, otherwise you’ll be perceived as having something to hide. When you are in a meeting, it's okay to look laterally side to side, which appears intellectual or powerful, but don't look up or down. It makes you look as if you've lost your confidence
  • Smile, but "over smiling" gives the impression of weakness. A good smile says you are confident, authoritative and friendly. A real smile lasts three or four seconds; anything longer appears frozen or phony.
  • Hands. The first place nervous energy shows is in your hands. Don't jingle your fingers like this, don't play with your shirt ends or fiddle with your tie. Hands clasped in front of you, below your waist gives the impression of insecurity and looks like you don't know what to do with your hands. Just let them hang at your sides, naturally and casually. To put your hands by your side and do nothing with your hands is powerful body language. Don't hold one arm with the other, don't clasp your hands in front or in back, and don't stick your hands in your pockets (it makes your lower end look twice as wide.)
  • People are most comfortable with people who are "like" themselves (in dress, mannerisms, thoughts, etc.). Mirror: Try to "mirror" the other person’s body position and mannerisms such as speech speed, (to a certain degree).
  • Voice pitch. Keep your pitch low. There are more men on radio, because people respond better to lower pitched voices. Don't end a sentence with a high note, in the interrogative question tone. Instead phrase questions assertively; for example say "I'd like to know when I can meet with you," as opposed to "when can I meet with you?"

WHAT IS FORMAL WEAR?????

what is the dress code "FORMAL" really means? Is it really just a dress code? let's discuss.

  • Formals always made of woven fabrics but not the knitted ones. (The easiest way to differentiate is... woven fabric doesn't get stretched where as knitted one does.)
  • Formal shirts always consists of collars, cuffs and the stitches of similar color to the fabric as Casuals have contrast collar n cuff. But, the color of the BUTTONS is not considered they might be of similar color or of different one. (A lot of premium brands make casual stuff but people often consider them as formal just because the brand is famous for formal wear). Formal suits or blazers or jackets always consists of lapels and buttons (2 or three). The casual ones don't.
  • Formal trousers always contain pleats. Where as the casuals are mostly the "Flat fronts".
  • The width of the belt would be 0.5 to 1.5 inch and the buckle is almost of equal size for Formal look where as larger belt is preferred when it's casual.
  • Never let the collar buttons or the first button of your shirt unbuttoned, and don't fold the cuffs (ends of your shirt) up if you want to look formal.
  • If u want a formal look, Don't wear a "round necked t shirt" or vest inside the shirt that is visible .

  • Formal shirts don't consist of Plaids but may have small to medium checks. The No. of colors of the checks should not be more than 4.
  • Yes here is an important one, you might see on the tags of shirts as "CASUAL WEAR" but they look formal??? and yes indeed they are Formal shirts. (as the western people always wear suit as formal wear. The shirt is considered as casual wear for them but, not for us (Indians).
Besides everything, you need a to be polite, confident, clean and firm to look formal.

HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT BRA???

Bra not only shapes the appearance of breasts but, is also helpful from a health standpoint. Wearing the right bra keeps a girl's breasts supported while she's playing a sport and can help prevent injury to the breast- tissue. A well-fitting bra is also important for a woman's posture, particularly if she has large breasts. A bra that doesn't fit can cause back problems, muscle tension, and even headaches.

Yet 8 out of 10 women wear bras that don't fit.

All About Straps, Snaps, Bands, and Cups :

Finding the right bra is not a difficult task if you know the basics of the sizing. There are two parts to a bra's size: the Chest size (also called the band size) and the Cup size.

The Chest, or Band size is the part of the bra that runs across the chest and around the back. The cups are the parts of the bra that hold the breasts. Bras come in many sizes, which are different combinations of the chest sizes (shown as numbers - 32, 34, 36, etc.) and cup sizes (shown as letters - AA, A, B, C, etc.)

It's important to get both the Chest and Cup sizes right to ensure a proper fit. Some manufacturers are now starting to offer cup options in half sizes in addition to regular cups to help girls get a better fit.

If a bra that's the wrong chest size, the band will either feel tight and uncomfortable around her rib cage or it will be too loose and ride up her breasts. Bras that are too small in the cup will compress the bust portion and force them to bulge out the sides. And cups that are too big can wrinkle and pucker, which won't look good under clothes.

So how do you calculate your chest and cup measurements? It's easy, and it's something you can do in the privacy of your own room at home. All that you need is a measuring tape.

Finding the Band (or Chest) size :

There is NO consensus in these measurement methods (unfortunately). Different opinions exist. So no matter what measuring system you use, you still need to try the garment on to be sure it actually fits.

Have someone measure around your chest with a tape measure, just under your breasts, and around the back. Make sure the tape measure rests flat on the skin and goes straight across your back. The most common advice is to add 5 inches to this measurement - and then that is your band size (also called chest size).

i.e. Band size = Measurement under the Breasts +5 inches

BUT adding only 2-3 inches (instead of 5) can work better for many women - if you need the support to come more from below, rather than hanging off the shoulders.

If you end up with an odd number, go up to the next even number, since bras usually only come in even-numbered band sizes.

Finding the cup size

Measuring the cup size is trickier; even with a measurement it is better to try on different bras and find out experimentally which one fits. Have someone measure you again, this time the measuring tape goes on top of the fullest part of your breasts. If you already own a well-fitting non-padded bra, you can wear it while taking this measurement as long as it doesn't 'flatten' your breasts (which would make an illusion of a smaller cup size). Record this number, and subtract band size. The difference tells you the correct cup size as follows:

i.e. Cup size depends on:

Measurement over the fullest part of the Breast - The Band size

you can find the cup size according to the difference by the chart given below :

Difference:
(inches)
negative01"2"3"4"5"6"7"
Cup sizeAAAA or AAAAAABCDDD or EDDD or FDDDD or G

Remember again, bra measuring is not exact science. And how could it be when women's breasts come in so many different shapes and sizes? Usually one breast is bigger than the other, they might sag, etc. So the fitting room tells you the truth; not the tape measure alone. You have to try it on. If it fits right, that's your bra size even if the tape measure told you different.

How to tell if your bra fits correctly :

  1. It should fit snugly around. You ought to be able to fit one or two fingers under the band comfortably. If you are pulling down the back strap or pulling up on the shoulder straps throughout the day, then the band size (the no. part of your bra size) is too big.
    1. Can you fit 1 finger comfortably at the back? If yes, then the band is right size.
    2. If you're having a hard time putting one finger under the band, then move the hooks to the loosest fitting eyes. If it is still tight on the loosest fitting, then try on one in the next up band size.
    3. If the band can easily be pulled away from your body, or if the band rises up your back, then go down one in the band size.
  2. If you are wearing an underwire bra, the wire that comes up between the breasts should lay flat (or as close as possible) to your breast bone.
  3. If the bra is a soft cup bra, you shouldn't have any extra, gapping fabric. If the bra is a molded cup you shouldn't have any extra room in the cup. Your breast should completely fill the cup. If it is gapping and the band feels fine, then go down in the cup size.
  4. You don't want to be spilling out of the cup - not from the top, bottom or sides. If the band feels fine then go up a cup size.
  5. If you raise your arms up (do this a few times), the bra should stay against your body, not lifting up or off. If this happens try a few things;
    1. adjust the shoulder straps by loosing them
    2. Pay attention to the band. Is it too tight? Or too loose? Or just right?
    3. If the band is just right, and adjusting the shoulder straps didn't work, then go up a cup size.
  6. Try on different styles of bras. Every style fits and fills different and can "shape" your breast differently.
  7. If your bra fits correctly, it should NOT be painful or uncomfortable to wear.

So you've taken your measurements and you're in the fitting room trying a bra in what's supposed to be your size — But it doesn't seem to fit. Now what?

Before you look for a different size, experiment by making some adjustments to the bra. Extend or shorten the band around your chest slightly by moving the hooks to a different eye on the
hook and eye closure . The bottom band of a properly fitting bra should ride across the middle of your back and pass under your shoulder blades to provide the right support.

A bra's straps allow you to modify how the cups fit and support your breasts. When the straps are the right length, a bra lifts the breasts comfortably and the back of the bra will run straight across your back (if a bra is pulling upward in the back, it may be a sign that the straps are too tight). You should be able to get one finger under the straps to prevent them from digging into your shoulders. In general, girls who are petite will need to wear the shorter bra straps.

Breast growth: A girl's breasts can grow and change rapidly during the teen years, which means that until you stop developing, you might have to change your bra size several times. If your breasts are still growing, consider buying fewer bras and measure yourself frequentl y to counter-check your size.Because growth can make a girl's breasts sensitive, you might find certain styles or fabrics work better for you. For example, some girls like seamless cups because they don't irritate; others choose styles that minimize jiggle to ease the occasional aches of breast development.

Menstrual changes: Some girls' breasts change size or shape at different times in their menstrual cycles. Many girls find they like to wear different styles of bras at different times in their cycle.

Different-sized breasts: Most girls' breasts grow at different rates — and many girls find themselves with one breast that's bigger than another. Move the strap adjusters on a bra to different lengths. Some girls also use the trick of buying a bra that has removable padding and then taking the extra padding out of the cup for the larger breast. Push-up bras can work well for this because they often come with an easily removable padded section (called a "cookie") that sits under the breast.

Hooks, wires, and other hazards: Take a look at the bra you're about to buy and imagine how it might survive a full day of wear. The bra's straps may feel fine in the fitting room, but if the adjusters are sitting right on your shoulder or collarbone, how will that feel if u carry a college Bag or Backpack.

Test to see if the bra band is too loose by lifting your arms in the air and putting them back down by your sides a couple of times. If the bra rides up across your breasts, the band is too loose. If you're looking for a sports bra, jump up and down in the fitting room a couple of times to evaluate the bra's bounce control.

You may also want to try on a T-shirt or sweater over a bra you're thinking of buying to get the finished effect. That pink rose on the front may look cute on the bra itself, but be careful and
observe how it looks once your T-shirt's on? No matter what the size or shape of a girl's breasts, the most important thing to remember in choosing a bra is..... "Comfort". Try on a variety of bras to find the one that's right for you. Some girls prefer the comfort of cotton, others like the support of synthetics or "under wires".

Types :

1. Minimizer bras are designed for full figures to reduce the bustline and create a more rounded shape. These bras can be very slimming. 2.Full-coverage bras cover the entire bust. These bras usually have larger cups to offer maximum support. 3. Convertible bras provide the comfort and no show coverage you desire. They can be transformed into a variety of styles to suit your versatile wardrobe needs — from halter to racer-back, one-shoulder to strapless. 4. Demi bras are half-cup bras. They do not cover the entire bosom to create a bare minimum look.

5. Seamless bras offer medium support and create a natural rounded appearance with a smooth shape. These bras are great for wearing under tight-fitting tops. 6. Padded bras just help to add a natural enhancement to your bust. (Many push-up bras are padded.) And sometimes the pads can be removable. 7. Push-up bras give your bust a natural lift while pushing them together. Push-up bras are great for a smaller bust because they can add cleavage where there wasn't any before. 8. Plunge bras provide the same comfort and shaping as basic bras do, but they have a low-cut center in front. They're the perfect solution when wearing daring necklines.

9. Wire-free bras offer comfortable shaping and support without the irritation of underwires. They're designed with stretch to perfectly fit your figure. They make the perfect everyday bra! 10. Sports bras are essential for sports and while working out in the Gym because they provide maximum support while reducing bounce. They're a must-have for any physical exercise.

No one bra is better than another or no particular one is the best — it all depends on which style works best for your needs.

Afraid of Breast Cancer???? :

Many people say that bras causing breast cancer is just a myth. It is true that bras do not
cause breast cancer but, ill-fitting (wrongly fitted), too tight bras can help cancer growth since they can prevent your body from excreting dangerous cancer-causing chemicals.

The main reason why tight bras are bad for breast health is because they restrict the lymph flow in the breasts. There are numerous lymph pathways and lymph nodes in the armpits, under the breasts, and in between the breasts. Normally the lymph fluid washes out waste materials and other toxins away from the breasts, but bras (and especially some push-up bras) inhibit this action, so toxins can start to accumulate in the breast, and that can help cancer to develop. In other words, bras inhibit the way our bodies normally cleanse themselves and get rid of cancer cells and toxins like PCBs, DDT, dioxin, benzene and other carcinogenic chemicals that cling to the body's fatty tissues like breast. In fact, if you find a lump in your breast, it may very well be filled with lymph fluid that was not able to move away from the breast tissue.

Bra wearing may also be connected to cancer in other ways. Wearing bras slightly increases the temperature of the breast tissue, and women who wear bras have higher levels of the hormone prolactin. Both of these may influence breast cancer formation.

so there is no need to worry as long as one selects the right one and wears it for not more than 8 hours per day.

COLORS SUIT YOUR SKIN COMPLEXION

Dark skin tone :

Dark-skinned people tend to have black or dark brown hair and dark eyes. colors that should be used here should contrast with the dark features The contrast breaks up look and catches the eye. The obvious mistake you may do is, choosing too dull shades. it might be surprising but you look good in bright colors too.

Colors you look your best in: Pink, White, various Khakis, various Blue shades, and Grey.

Colors you should avoid: Red, Yellow, Black, dark Brown, Turquoise and Light Green.

Tropical colors and really dark shades should be avoided. While black and navy blue are corporate colors and are hard to avoid, try to contrast them with colors that suit you for a contrasting look. I know u want in a more detailed manner. okay.. do remember to wear contrast clothing i.e. your top must be different form the bottom in color unless they are denim pants. Go for plain or striped shirts rather than the plaids (checks). If u love checks, then make sure that the color of the checks don't dominate the background. Always wear accessories match the dress. if possible avoid the gold colored (?? okay gold) accessories like chains and wrist watches. instead go for watch with belt.

A humble suggestion for u is... don't try to lighten the face with artificial cream or powder instead, be confident and proud to be as really as you are.

Medium Skin Tone :

Medium-toned skin can be combined with blond or black hair. Eye color can vary from blue to black. Both light and dark colors work well here, as they will both contrast well with your skin.

Best Colors : Any, but see note below.

Possible Colors To Avoid: Purple, Dark Brown, Red and Olive.
Individually a person in this group should avoid colors that blend to closely to their skin n olive complexion, avoid wearing olive-colored or brown clothing.

Fair or glowing skin :

Well, you will have as many doubts as the dark skinned (if not more). you may get attention mostly due to your skin color and that is what u need to remember...... NEVER LET YOUR CLOTHES TO DOMINATE YOU.

Best Colors: Light Blue, Brown, Beige, Off-White and Deep Blue and any subdued (not too bright or too dark) color.

Colors to avoid: Red (u love red? then make sure u wear it in the evening or night.) , Orange, Yellow, Lime, light Green and Purple.

The aim should be to avoid harsh or bright colors since these give you a washed out look. Your clothes will stand out and you wont, wearing vibrant colors is even worse and should be avoided.
Use Color To Your Advantage.
Avoid wearing satin or glittered clothing in the day or after noons. Take care the ears and neck portions to have the same glow of your face. Wear the same or nearer colored tops with bottoms. unless they are denims.

HIDE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS (WOMEN)

Big bottom, big hips, small breasts. If you want to handle at least one of these, and need a dress that not only accentuates the good but, also hides the bad; then there are plenty of styles to choose from that will not only sort out your problem bits, but make you look gorgeous and cool.

Big Hips:

A line dresses are perfect for larger hipped ladies. Go for knee length to draw attention away from the problem area.

Things to avoid are dresses cut on the bias. The cross cut of the material makes them cling to big hips like nobody's business. Also avoid severely tapered skirts and styles with patch pockets, all around pleating and horizontal details.

Show off your top half with strapless or halter styles, empire waist styles or anything that is tight around the bust or waist and flares slightly.

Small Breasts:

Shift dresses are great if you want to draw attention away from your breasts. Pencil skirted dresses work well as they'll draw attention to the rest of your physique.

To be fair, small breasts can get away with most styles. Low cut dresses don't look awkward on girls with less cleavage, instead they look trendy more over you are the only one who can enjoy the clothes to full extent. so don't be embarrassed of your small breasts. Backless dresses are also great to draw attention away and are extraordinarily ideal for you.

ATTENTION: It's obvious that you prefer, wearing a Padded bra but, for God sake, never think of one which have padding (wiring in case of "under wired bra") at the UPPER portion (cup) of the bust. It leads to a lot of health problems including Breast Cancer. Ask the sales girl if you have doubts. Remember that it should always have padding at the LOWER portion(cup) for you to be safe. (also look in the article "Selecting the right bra" for detail information.)

Big Breasts:

Your best bets are wrap dresses, which hide the tummy area and separate the bust, or sweetheart and open necklines, which elongate the neckline and draw the eye up.

Look for dresses with a slight flare to balance the lower and upper body. Avoid high necklines (like shift dresses) which unify the breasts, and halter styles. Other shapes to avoid are boxy or baggy styles.Playing down this area is fairly easy to achieve by enhancing those parts of the body that really do look good like the lower area. Skirts with flare can take the eye away from the breasts, and playing down the breast area with darker color, balancing it off with brighter color in areas of strength can really look classic and nice.

Often the large breasted woman makes the mistake of wearing bras that are too small, leaving fatty areas around the bra under the arms and on the back....Never do such a mistake (at least from now onwards). By buying a correctly fitted bra, you will present yourself in a better way because the bulges will be less dominant and garments will look better. There are also weak areas around the shoulders and tops of arms that mean that a lady who is big on top would look better with garments that have sleeves. It's not a weakness and in fact can prove a great strength. Just by accepting the shape that they are and enhancing the areas that really do look good, attention is taken away from those areas of weakness.

Large Tummy (stomach or upper abdomen area) :

Don’t wear skirts or dresses in flimsy fabrics that offer no support, drawstring waist trousers or
low-cut hipsters, elastic waist tops, big prints or tiny floral prints.
Don’t wear undergarments that are too tight or tops that contain lycra.
Don’t tuck the tops in to the bottoms.
Wear denim skirts with a zip or buttons at the front - the fabric really holds your stomach in.
Go for shirts or jackets with buttons, leaving the last three or four unbuttoned to skim over tummy.
Wear longer length jackets, trousers that zip at the side and flat-fronted skirts.
Wear big chunky belts slung around the lower stomach.
Try long and lean stretch jeans and slightly low-slung waistbands to elongate your body.

plump (fatty) Legs/Ankles:

Don’t wear mid-length skirts that end at your calves, short mini skirts, calf-length or ankle
boots, light colored or shiny tights.
Don’t let your hem fall at the fattest part of your leg.
Don’t wear shoes with very delicate straps , ankle straps or ankle chains.
Wear wedges (platform heels), low-cut shoes, black knee-length boots in suede or stretch fabric.
Skirts that end just below the knee make lower legs look longer.
Do wear sandals with broader straps across the foot to disguise puffy ankles.
Wear dark colored plain tights.

WEAR ACCORDING TO THE BODY (WOMEN)

As it's not possible to specify the every kind of the body, I make an attempt to discuss the most common types.

Petite (short) :

Well, the definition for 'PETITE" varies with the origin of living ( country). Here, I consider the height of "4.4 to5.4" feet or "134 to164" Centimeters as petite. So, if you are nearer to this height, consider yourself as petite. Mind you, you may also come under some other body type (because of shape of the body). In that case, follow the avoidable (not to wear) things of both types of bodies.

What to do :

Dress all in one color from your top to your shoes. Don’t forget to match your hose (socks) to your outfit.
Dark colors make you look slim. Try Black, Navy, Charcoal, Burgundy, deep Green, or Purple.
Wear garments that fit you well. Fitted or semi-fitted clothing looks better on Petites.

Select clothes with vertical lines. They don’t need to be striped (the design on the garment may start from the top and end at the bottom).
Vertical seam lines, such as Princess seams will do the trick.
Choose Tops and Jackets with V-shaped or U-shaped necklines.

Wear high heels. It’s the easiest way to add height. Pumps and Sling-backs are terrific.
Wear Jeans and pants with straight legs, flat fronts or even the boot cuts
if u like.
Keep belts slim and match them to your outfit if you want to wear a belt.
Select Purses or Bags of medium size so that, your Bag will be in proportion to your smaller frame.

What not to do :

Wide or contrasting Belts cut the figure in half and break up the vertical illusion that we want to achieve. So, never wear them even they are your favorite.
Never wear Pants with Cuffs, bulky Pockets, or Pleats.
Stay away from garments that have a lot of Design and the loose-fitting apparel. Avoid shoes with Ankle straps.
Avoid bulky or highly textured fabrics. There’s no need to avoid texture completely, but stay
away from fabrics with a lot of loft and fuzziness.
For Sweaters, Thin fabric works better than thick.
Skip the Mini-skirts and Mini dresses. (Although Minis look great on women with
long, slender legs, they don’t have the same effect for shorter women.)
Stay away from huge Handbags. (Oversize bags are so big that they can seem to overwhelm short women.)

Tall :

Here is a strange situation in the sense, a lot of women feel themselves lucky to have great height at the same time, there are also people who face difficulty because of the over height (I mean more than what they want to be). I try to discuss the both.

1.Making the most of your height :

If you are fortunate enough to have those extra few inches of height, then you are lucky that most styles suit you. This is not to say there aren't things you should avoid, but generally there are lots of fabulous ways in which you can allow your clothes to enhance your Height.

What to do :

Long Dresses will always create a better impression of length, as there will be a continual flow from the shoulders area to the floor.
If you do choose trousers for that more casual look, then try Cuff- less trousers, as these w
ill appear longer.
Long and lean effect can be obtained by sticking to one color throughout the outfit.
The Top and Trousers should be of same (or nearer) color with no belt worn or a belt of the same color (introducing different colors will break up the length and the belt will act as a dividing line).
Choose thin vertical Stripes, detailing such as visible Seams, and well-tailored Darts and sharp Creases, again to create length.
Wear long Scarves or heavy Necklaces depending on the occasion.
Hats always accentuate height, go for swept-back Ponytails for those of you with longer hair. Shoes should be high and elegant. search for Shoes with interesting detail on the heel, or eye-catching chrome look heels.

What not to do :

Stay away from Capri trousers and anything that is three-quarter length as these cut off at a mid-limb point and will not create that impression of length you are aiming for.
Avoid tight clothes and skirts that are too short or too long.
If wearing a long dress, complex Patterns should be avoided as much as possible.

2. Playing down your height :

If you are one of those women who get fed up of being so tall, and always think... "I wish i could be a bit shorter." There are things you can do to create the impression that you look the way you want.

What to do :

You should choose Separates and in particular, pick Tops that are long (below the waist) and cover the upper portion of your legs. These will give the appearance that you legs are shorter than they actually are.
Select Trousers (pants) that have a Cuffed appearance round the bottom. This will make the actual length seem much shorter.
Capri and three-quarter length trousers can be worn but, make sure that they are not too short for you.
You have more scope in terms of the colors you should be wearing to truncate your height. Choose mixtures of dark and light colors while combining Tops and Bottoms, and mix patterns and detail that run across the width of tops.
Wear belts to provide that dividing line between your top and bottom areas, and divert the eye from left to right even more by introducing horizontal stripes to the outfit.

It may seem obvious but shoes play a big part in creating height ( Choose flat heels or mules depending on the occasion.
Look for shoes that have detail on the flatter part of the shoe at the front but not on the heel.

What not to do:

Long Dresses that create a continual flow from head to toe are to be avoided.
Don't wear clothes of same color. also avoid belts that are too broad in width.
V necks, diagonal and vertical Stripes are a Big No No.

The triangle shaped :

Person Having.................... narrow Shoulders, too small Bust Line extend to wider Hips.

What to do :

Wear clothes with vertical Lines to make an up and down illusion. Tops with V-necks and Skirts with Slits up the sides are also good (only if u prefer). choose Clothes having Design or Detail at the Neck and Shoulders. wearing Scarves will be a good choice too.
Boat Neck will look good(ignore if u are not comfortable with).
Wear wide collared Tops and clothes with small Padded shoulders .
Wear long Tops that go passed your Hips.

Choose Jackets, Tailored Suits and Shirtwaist dresses with Straight, Classic cuts.
Shirts that hit above or below the Hip region are good to choose. Skirts should be a bit longer and stay around the Knee.
Lighter colors on top can be worn, this brings eyes up.
Wear dark Stockings. Select vertical, fluid patterns and avoid bulky fabrics.

Adopt the "just below the knee" look in Dresses and Skirts.
Choose Accessories of the same or nearer color to the clothes you are wearing including shoes. This gives your body an unbroken slimmer look.
Stay with straight or A line skirts.

What not to do :

Avoid Shirts or Tops ending at the Hip region. Garments with diagonal Sleeves (Raglans or Halters). Don't wear Skirts or Pants with Patch or Inseam Pocke
ts, bulky Side seams and Pleats.
Avoid short Skirts that end above the Knee and
very wide Pinafore Skirts.

The Inverted Triangle :

Have broad shoulders, full bust line, or heavy upper arms extending to narrow hips.

What to do :

Choose long Jackets without shoulder Pads. Go for darker colors on top and lights as bottoms. . Tops with V neck;
Dolman or Raglan sleeves and ones that fit loose and slims down to hug the hips and waist are good.
Wear Pants or Skirts that are Pleated to bring the eye down. Choose thin materials like Cotton,
or Poly-cotton or Rayon. One color dressing will also be thinning.
Wear large Belts or belts with large Buckles. Flat shoes are best unless you are short, then wear Heels. If your legs are in good shape, shorter Hem lengths will draw attention away from your top.
Let the hair be free or tie it a bit loosely to cover some portion of your shoulders.

What not to do :

Do not wear tops with fancy details and ruffles at the neck shoulder or bust region. Do not wear clingy fabrics on top.
Do not wear tops that are too light in color. avoid Capri or Tapered (narrow fitted) pants.
Never wear Tops with wide necklines (like Boat neck). Avoid heavy jewelry in the neck. Never bunch your hair into Bun or tie it too tightly to form a thin Plait.

The Hourglass shaped :

Narrow Waist with, wider Bust and Hips that are in proportion are the features.

Note : The best Fashions for your shape are those that are fitted to show off your curves.. Even if you are larger, it is much better to choose tops that don't hide much of your curves, beca
use trying to hide your shape will not work and more over, it might cause a weird look. so be positive and proud about what you are.

What to do :

Choose a dark Bottom and a lighter Top, with a Belt that matches the pant or skirt. Jackets and tops will look especially good on you if they have a Belt, Consider a loose shirt with an open collar or a loose-fitting v-neck on top that are cropped or ended at the waist.
Think about Flat-Front, side-Zippper and Pocket Less pants as they minimize your full Hips and Bottom.

The best Skirt for you is the Pencil skirt . Straight styles and certain A-line skirts could also be right for you, as long as they are fitted around the waist and Hips.
The best style is a Wrap Dress that can be pulled in at your middle.
Dresses that are fitted on upper portion of the body and have an A-line skirt can also look great.
Most styles of trousers will suit you, high or low waist, as long as they are not too b
aggy.
The only style to avoid would be tapered trousers (Narrow fit) that get nar
rower towards your ankles, especially if you are a very curvy Hourglass.
Go for a comfortable and safe pair of shoes or sandals.

What not to do:

Stay away from Dresses that are completely straight up and down. Also avoid dresses cut on the bias ( diagonal, longer on one side than the other) .
Avoid ruffles and pleats as these will add bulk
Never Wear anything too tight or clingy whatsoever.
Boxy styles and Empire lines though fashionable and fun will not suit you as they will hit your Chest and then flare out missing your waist.

The Pear shaped :

Usually have: A bottom heavy shape, Thin and slender neck, Narrow or sloping shoulders, Larger and more generous lower hips and thighs. I know it's difficult to understand what pear shaped body really means. ( Infact a lot of Indian women come under this category) which is why I provide the image here. Please note that, the diagrams I placed here, are to make you understand the things easily. And please let me know if you feel embarrassed or weird.

NOTE: Remember that you are the judge of what you wear and that, taking friends to help you decide is often a mistaken decision, since friends get impatient and often answer in the positive way even if the outfit is a disaster. Only "You" can be the judge. Wear those things that you are happy with, and create your own Unique style.

What to do :

Choose a shirt that draws the eye to the shoulders. ( with a Design or a patch)
Select tops with the following elements:
Wide Necklines such as Boat neck or Scoop neck style that can widen the shoulders and balanc
e your bottom half.
Look for waist-defining details in your Tops, such as Belted or Clinched styles that show off your defined waist.

Look for buttons or ties at the neck that will draw eyes upwards.
Wear lighter colors for Tops and darker colors for skirts and stick to just below the Knee lengths.
Wear Jacket or Blazer without fastening it (leaving the buttons off).
Try to find one with puffed sleeves to balance out your shoulders in proportion to your hips. Wear brooches to draw the eye away from defects in the neck area.
Look for a waistline on your skirt or trousers that hits slightly below the natural waistline Without extra layers close to your waist. Get skirts with a slight A line c
ut. They will skim over problem areas and make the Hip and Thigh areas slim.
Scarves are a great invention, and long scarves can be worn flamboyantly covering larger
breasts and enhancing a darker Top.
Lengthen and slim your legs with a pair of heeled shoes. Heavier style heels which are not stilettos (pointed heels) will balance out your calves.

What not to do :

Stay away from tight skirts and trousers. Avoid wearing a Blazer that ends at the widest point of your hips.
Try to avoid shirts that are too tight.
Stay away from baggy shirts. Don't hide your shape with loose tees! You'll look bigger all over.
Avoid shoes with ankle straps or T-strap styles, which can make your legs look larger.

The Apple shaped :

Apple shaped usually have: full breasts and a wide back. arms could be slim, while shoulders be wide. have slim hips and a trim backside and might have gain weight at the midsection. I know it's difficult to understand what pear shaped body relly means( a lot of indian women comes under this category). which is why I provide the image here. Please note that, the diagrams I placed here are to make you understand the things easily. And please let me know if YOU feel embarrassed or wierd.

What to do :

Try out a floaty tee such as a tunic style top. It will skim around the waist. Try an empire waist shirt that begins under the bust to draw attention away from the stomach.
Wear shirts that reach lower than your waist to reduce the chance of "muffin top"escaping from where your shirt meets your trousers. If you like your hips to look a little more in balance with your bust, try a shirt that meets the largest point of the hips.
Choose a shirt with a slightly lower neckline to keep the eyes moving upwards. Pair that with a
statement necklace for maximum effect.
Try light (made of thin fabric) layers to move the eye over trouble spots.Wear a waistcoat over a sleeveless tank to draw attention to your arms and camouflaging your tummy.
Choose a layered chiffon blouse over a lightweight tank top. With a well-fitting lightweight top, you can skim over the midsection with ease.

Look for wide-legged trousers that will create a more even look between your upper and lower halves.Try wide-legged Capris to flaunt your slim ankles. The best jeans for your body type are ones with front and back pockets.
Choose a skirt with a full silhouette. Your slightly top-heavy appearance can be reduced significantly, and when paired with a slim-fitting tunic, you'll look positively slim.
Skirts with a higher waistline, such as one that reaches the natural waist, will disguise a larger stomach and hide any strain or tightness across the midsection.
Find a pair of shoes that continue the long lines of your legs. You may want to try a strapped sandal with brief straps and a sexy heel.
Wear kitten heels for comfort if you have smaller calves. These heels are easier on your feet,
Embrace chunkier style shoes like wedges. Wearing a slightly heavier shoe can help to anchor and balance your top half.

What not to do :

Don't wear slim miniskirts with your body type. You will seem far more top-heavy than you really are.
Never wear skinny trousers, unless you wear a longer tunic over it. Avoid pants with pleats

Avoid tops with puffy sleeves or overly baggy clothing. Slim skirts and tight clothes should also be avoided since they will only emphasize a slimmer lower body half and create the illusion of imbalance.

The slim Rectangle :

The shoulders and hips are very similar in width but there is still a curve at the waist line (waist is a bit slim)

What to do:

Wear styles having details on the bust and the hips choose designs that have horizontal lines,
go for unstructured jackets and blazers (without padding) with wide shoulders or jackets with small lapels which taper at the waist.

pair up contrasting clothes (tops and bottoms of different colors)
wear full tops with flared skirts or pleated pants with full or flared pant legs
the waist bands need to be narrow and go for bulky sweaters and baggy pants.

what not to do :

Never wear clothes with wide waist bands. and don't use belts except if they are unavoidable for you. Don't wear clothes with large pockets, large plaids(checks) and patterns.with vertical stripes.

The Wide Rectangle :

....Have nearly a parallel body shape, the body will have equal width from top to bottom.

What to do :

wear clothes with contrast colours. go for layered tops at the shoulder and neck line.
wear clothes that hug the waist. Use round or curved neck lines.
go for round necklaces or wrap a scarf .

What not to do :

stay away from wide waist bands and belts.
Avoid V and square neck lines. don't wear padded shouldered jackets.
never wear clothes with large (plaids)checks, pockets or patterns.

HIDE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS (MEN)

Here are some Styling tips for men that will provide guidelines regarding the Right clothing for different body types.

  • Short waisted men : Should avoid wearing trousers / jeans just at the waist. Low waist jeans are not the right type for you. Instead wear the pants above the waist level.Tucking your top would not be a very good option. Pullovers are apt for your personality. Short lengthy tank tops are a total no because they tend to highlight your short waist. Contrast concept won't look very good as it would interfere with the vertical flow. So a combo of pink shirt and black trouser should not be chosen. Always make sure that the top and bottom are of the same or nearer colors. Ask your tailor to keep an inch higher on waist while taking measurement.
  • Long waisted men : Need to do things the other way round when compared to short waisted guys. Guys your perfect fashion style is low waist jeans with a contrasting shade T-shirt tucked inside. Double breast jacket is just ideal for you so as to prevent people's eyes from falling particularly on your legs. Choose belts with a big buckle. Instead of wearing pants with pleats and tucks, go for flat fronts. Stretch your hands wide apart while walking.
  • Men with flat hips : Should firstly make sure that they wear proper fit pants. Straight leg trousers are just perfect for you because they divert the attention from back and camouflage your body feature. Select thick fabrics and light colors for trousers. On the contrary there are men with LARGE HIPS. For them, it's important to wear proper undergarments, which includes biking shorts & boxer briefs as they tightly hold your body. Attire low waist pleated flat front trousers, as they would go well with your personality.
  • large belly?? : your wardrobe should have a combination of light weighted fabric and dark color. Light shades tend to accentuate your big belly and are a big NO NO. You should make it a point to wear a vest as it prevents loose skin flow from taking place. Long sleeve T-shirt is the right kind for you. Choose tops with Collar detail or design at the neck or chest portion. Avoid low waist jeans.
Even if you are dressed in Ethnic clothing, there are many options available with you but
again, as mentioned earlier all types are not meant for you. Shorter men and fleshy guys
should wear knee long Kurtas (lalchi). Tall guys can too opt for calf length Kurtas .

Hmmm.... So guys, by now, you must have got a clear idea as to what would suit you. so follow these tips and enhance your positive features. I hope that next time you go shopping you'll be focused as to what you need.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BODY

1. MEASURING THE BODY
Only basic body measurements are needed to determine your pattern type and size. Remember to wear proper undergarments and shoes when measuring. Also, make sure the tape measure is held snugly and firmly (not tightly) against your body and is always parallel to the floor for circumference measurements.

For Misses’ and Misses’ Petite:

Bust - Measure around the fullest part of bust and straight across back (1)
Chest - Around body above fullest part of bust (2)
Waist - Around body at natural waistline (3)
Hip - Around body at fullest part—usually 7-9" (18-23cm) below waist (4)
Back waist length - From the most prominent bone at base of the neck to the waistline (5)
Height - Measure (without shoes) standing against a wall

For Men and Boys:

Neck band - Around base of neck or buy shirt pattern by ready-made size (1)
Chest - Around fullest part of chest (2)
Waist - At natural waist over shirt (3)
Hip - At seat or fullest part of hip (4)
Shirt sleeve - From back base of neck across shoulder around bend of elbow to wrist (5)
Height - Measure (without shoes) standing against a wall

2. SELECT YOUR SIZE CATEGORY

Compare your height and body measurements to the measurement charts to select your size category.

3. SELECT YOUR GARMENT SIZE
Garment size is determined by your circumference (width) measurements. Again, refer to the Measurement Charts to select the size corresponding to the Bust, Waist and Hip measurements closest to your measurements. Here are some tips to help make your size selection easier:

  • For Dresses, Blouses, Tops, Vests, Jackets, and Coats, select size to correspond with your Bust/Chest measurement. Adjust the Waist and/or Hip, if necessary. If there is more than 2"(5cm) difference between your Bust and Chest measurement, select pattern size by your chest measurement, because you will achieve a better fit through your shoulders, chest and upper back; adjust the Bust if necessary.

  • For Skirts, Pants, Shorts, and Culottes, select size to correspond with your Waist measurement. Adjust the Hip, if necessary. If your Hips are much larger than your Waist, select the size closest to your Hip measurement and adjust the Waist.
  • When purchasing a garment that includes a Top, Blouse, Jacket, Skirt and/or Pants, select size by your Bust/Chest measurement and adjust the Waist and/or Hips if necessary.

  • If your measurements fall between two sizes, consider your bone structure. If you are thin and small-boned, choose the smaller of the two sizes. If you are larger boned, choose the larger size. Personal preference may also influence your size selection depending on whether you prefer a looser or a closer fit.

  • For Maternity patterns, select according to the measurements before pregnancy.
